We join the global movement in creating art in solidarity for those affected by the war in Ukraine.
This project was initiated by (no name) Art Group in May 2022 and addresses the current war in Ukraine. The project is another one of our “collaborative grids”. The way it works is there is one main image, divided into a grid. Each participant gets a square of the grid to design/illustrate how they choose (with a few rules). The image is then put back together to make the “whole”. In the current project, the final image forms a peace dove. Collaborative grids are a perfect project for the group. The separate “squares” of the grid celebrate each artist as an individual. Once together, the grid is celebrated as a whole. A rich tapestry of diversity to remind us that we are stronger together.
This project now hangs on the wall of the reception and registration room at a Ukrainian refugee center in Sofia, Bulgaria. The project and all 36 artist statements are translated in English, Ukrainian and Bulgarian so that our message can be shared with those who need it most.
I titled my square (#27) “Each Other”, and participated in this project to support Ukrainian refugees.
I drew these figures very intuitively and imperfectly to symbolize uncertainty and a sense a displacement. Not looking alike illustrates our capacity to reach out and take care of each other, welcoming ‘the stranger’ into our midst. I participated in this project to add my support to Ukraine during these very challenging times.

The (no name) Art Group
Initiated in 1999, the (no name) Art Group hosts creative art exhibitions and fundraisers in support of charities dedicated to raising awareness of significant world issues. As one of the Honorary Board Members of the group, I enjoy being a participating artist as well as a member of the behind-the-scenes think tank for each project.
